A worldwide tailor-made travel company

I built a WordPress website for a company arranging tailor-made travel around the world. The amount of content made this a different problem from building a handful of destination pages. Regions, countries, individual destinations, hotels and itineraries all needed to connect.

The useful work was in those relationships. A visitor might begin with a country, a type of journey or an example itinerary. The content structure needed to support those different starting points without treating every page as an isolated piece of information.

Organising connected content

The build used a relationship-based structure for the travel content. Regions lead into countries and destinations, with relevant hotels and itineraries connected to them. The system also accounts for availability at the content level: hiding a country updates related parts of the site rather than requiring separate edits to every reference.

The frontend combines destination and trip listings, itinerary detail and enquiry routes. Navigation was reorganised around exploring the content, while predictive loading formed part of the work on page-to-page movement.

Helping someone start planning

Example itineraries include practical detail alongside the imagery, and the wider site introduces the travel specialists behind them. That gives someone ways to narrow down an idea before making an enquiry.

My contribution was the website development, translating the supplied design into a connected publishing system. The significant part of the build is the way those relationships support both browsing and ongoing editing, across a much larger body of content than the homepage alone suggests.
