A British yacht builder

I built the website for a British yacht builder whose work spans sailing and motor yachts. My role was to turn the supplied design into a working WordPress site, giving the photography room while keeping the range of boats easy to explore.

A yacht is both a visual object and a complicated product. The website needed to show the finish and craftsmanship, then let someone move into the practical details of a particular boat. That meant the portfolio, individual yacht pages and wider story of the business all had to work together.

WordPress with a custom frontend

The site organises the yachts into distinct groups, with individual pages for a closer look. Images sit alongside information such as accommodation and cabin arrangements. Separate sections cover design, craftsmanship and the approach to building, so that those subjects have space beyond a short caption.

The supplied visual direction included subtle nautical details in the controls and transitions. I carried those details into the build alongside the larger layouts, rather than treating the pages as a set of static images.

The build combines WordPress and PHP templates with custom JavaScript navigation, allowing movement between pages without a full browser reload. The frontend needed to keep that behaviour consistent with the yacht listings, individual pages and smaller animated controls. This was a bespoke website implementation rather than simply applying the design to a standard theme.

A portfolio with useful depth

The finished structure connects the impression a boat makes with the information behind it. Visitors can move from the overall fleet into a particular yacht, or spend time understanding how the boats are made. It is a project where the development had to serve both the images and the less visible organisation of the content.
